The City of Lebanon is currently working on a plan to convert all streetlights to light-emitting diode (LED) fixtures. This conversion project, when complete, has the potential to provide significant annual energy and maintenance savings, to reduce greenhouse gasses and light pollution, as well as offer superior lighting for improved safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers.
In October 2018, City Manager Shaun Mulholland signed Administrative Policy ADM-109 to effectuate regulations regarding the Lighting of Public Ways/Places/Parking Facilities. In accordance with this policy, streetlights in Lebanon will be upgraded, added, or removed where deemed in the best interest of public safety, energy savings, or the reduction of light pollution and glare.
The first step in the conversion process is to identify and remove streetlights that may not be necessary for safety and are not fully in conformance with the Policy. To this end, the City has selected 89 streetlights for removal. Pink flyers will be posted directly on light poles where streetlights are proposed to be removed.
If a flyer is posted on a pole in your neighborhood and you object to its removal, please submit a Removal Objection Form by Sunday, June 9, 2019. All objections will be reviewed by the Department of Public Works and decisions will be rendered on or before Friday, August 9, 2019. We are holding two Community Conversations to discuss the conversion project and present information on the benefits of LED lighting. Please plan to attend and share your questions, ideas, or concerns about street lighting in your neighborhood, specific areas of the City, or in the City as a whole. We will be meeting on:

- Thursday, May 9, 2019, 6:30pm, Multi-Purpose Room, Mount Lebanon School, 5 White Avenue, West Lebanon.
