On April 3, the LEB Airport again hosted 8th graders in a Job Shadow day. Students were from Lebanon Middle, Indian River, and Chelsea Public schools. Students talked with airport staff in the terminal, Cape Air, and security areas. They also visited facilities at and heard from Granite Air Center, Sharkey’s Helicopters, Upper Valley Flying Club, and Midwest Air Traffic Control (Control Tower).
Students learned of all the different types of careers in aviation and at airports and what would be required to enter these fields. Students talked directly with corporate pilots, flight instructors, and Air Traffic Controllers, and got to sit inside and learn about a corporate jet.
The high point of the day was when Michael Whitaker, a member of the Upper Valley Flying Club and ex Deputy Director of the Federal Aviation Administration shared pizza with the students and discussed his experiences and knowledge of aviation careers.
