On March 22, 2023, at approximately 7:40 PM, the Lebanon Police Department received a call requesting a welfare check on a man that was walking around an apartment building on Parkhurst Street yelling and screaming. Upon Officers arrival, they were unable to locate the male, but were directed to an apartment located at 14 Parkhurst Street.
Officers went to the apartment and discovered several individuals inside. In speaking with the individuals, it was determined an assault had occurred and both involved parties were still in the apartment. Witnesses reported that a male, who was identified as Riely Mavilla, age 22, from Canaan, NH, assaulted another male in the apartment by pushing him to the ground and then punching him multiple times in the face. Mavilla then retrieved a knife from the kitchen and stabbed the victim numerous times in chest. Mavilla left the apartment only to return several minutes later and forced entry into the now locked apartment where he assaulted a female occupant before attacking the male victim again by striking him with his fists. Mavilla was reported to have then stopped the assault but remained in the apartment, where he was discovered upon Officers arrival.
The male victim was transported to Dartmouth Health where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The female victim did not suffer any injuries.
Mavilla was arrested and charged with First Degree Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a Class A Felony, Criminal Threatening with a Deadly Weapon and Burglary, both Class B Felonies, two counts of Simple Assault and two counts of Domestic Violence Simple Assault, and Criminal Mischief, all Class A Misdemeanors. Mavilla was held on preventative detention and transported to the Grafton County House of Corrections, where he will be held pending his arraignment.
