The Department of Public Works has heard from residents requesting a change in the timing of the lights along NH Route 12A. Unfortunately, the changing of light sequences is not a simple or quick process.
The configuration of the traffic lights along 12A from Glen Road to Walmart was last done in 2010 as part of the New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) 12A Project. This configuration involved a traffic study, resulting in traffic engineers creating light cycles for all the intersections.
This City is aware of likely timing issues at a minimum of one or two locations along the corridor, perhaps more. As such, the City is in the process of commencing a review of the reported issues, and moving toward scoping out the needed studies and associated signal modifications/signal timing configurations that may be necessary.
Due to signal coordination and timing along the corridor, the City most likely will not have the ability to change the time at one intersection without disrupting all the intersections along 12A. To add time or change signal cycles, the above-noted scoping and subsequent evaluations of the corridor signals needs to be performed – and then make any necessary or warranted changes after this process is completed.
We will provide more updates as we move through the process of evaluating the options.
