On May 13, 2017 at 12:55PM, Lebanon Police Officers responded to Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) for a report of a male subject who had stolen over $900 in camping equipment from the store and placed it in a stolen backpack. A description of the suspect and stolen merchandise was obtained and broadcast to all officers and surrounding agencies.
At
approximately 5:20PM on this same date, K9 Officer Tyler Hewes was on patrol on the Miracle Mile when he observed a male subject walking east and noted that he appeared to be in possession of the merchandise stolen from EMS. Officer Hewes attempted to make contact with the male subject but the individual refused to stop and speak with him. The male subject was later identified as James Thibodeau, age 39, of Wolfeboro Road in Hanover, NH.
Officer Hewes then attempted to detain Thibodeau after he refused to stop and a struggle ensued. Thibodeau refused to cooperate with officers and resisted their attempts to take him into custody. Thibodeau was subsequently arrested and charged with Resisting Detention, Receiving Stolen Property and Theft by Unauthorized Taking, all Class A Misdemeanors. Thibodeau refused the services of a bail commissioner and was arraigned this morning in Lebanon District Division, New Hampshire Second Circuit Court where he was held on $500 cash bail.
