Can I Recycle This Plastic?

Recycle

Every day at the Lebanon Recycling Center, our staff receives questions about what plastic is recyclable and what is not. It is important to know what is NOT recyclable so we keep our recycling contaminate-free.

During this time of year, we see a lot of flowerpots and plant trays. These items are NOT recyclable with our current vendor but we are excited to offer a collection event for flowerpots at Gardener’s Supply on Mechanic Street in Lebanon Saturday, June 25 from 10:00AM to 3:00PM.

We also see a lot of Styrofoam at the Lebanon Recycling Center. Currently, Styrofoam is NOT recyclable here. There are programs being developed in New Hampshire, but not here. Please put Styrofoam in the trash.

Large bins/totes are handy for storing holiday decorations and camping gear; however, they are NOT recyclable at the Lebanon Recycling Center. Please post on a local website or social media if you have items that still have use but do not need any longer.

Plastic clamshell containers which hold items such as spinach, lettuce, slices of cake, and other prepared foods are, unfortunately, NOT recyclable at the Lebanon Recycling Center. We have looked for a vendor that will accept these and have not found one.

Other items we see in the plastic bin at the Lebanon Recycling Center include garden hoses, grocery bags, plastic toys, trays, laundry baskets, and a variety of other items which are pulled out and disposed of as trash. If you are unsure if something is recyclable, we encourage you to use our Recycling App, visit our What Goes Where web page, or ask one of our staff.
