On Thursday, December 16, 2021, at 8:37 PM, the Lebanon Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious acting male that was wearing a ski mask and was making guests at the Quality Inn in Lebanon uncomfortable.
Upon Officers arrival at the scene, the man was identified as Shawn Carpenter, age 44, of Hartford, VT, who had an active capias warrant out of the Grafton County Superior Court. Carpenter ignored Officers commands and tried running away. Carpenter had a rock in his hand and aimed to throw it towards the Officers. A taser was deployed, however, Carpenter was able run from the Officers. As Carpenter ran, he turned towards one of the Officers and threw the rock, striking an Officer on the left side of the face.
Officers were able take Carpenter into custody after a brief struggle on the ground. Carpenter was then transported by Lebanon Fire Department to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for minor injuries. He was later medically cleared.
One of the Lebanon officers was also treated for minor injuries at Alice Peck Day Hospital and was able to return to duty.
Carpenter was charged with Resisting Arrest, a Misdemeanor and 2nd Degree Assault, a Class B Felony. He was held on Preventive Detention and later transported to the Grafton County House of Corrections, awaiting an arraignment date on the capias warrant, as well as the two charges above.
