At approximately 1:00 pm today, a sewer main break was reported at Baker’s Crossing Conservation Area adjacent to Hardy Hill Road and the Mascoma River. The damaged sewer main is a 10” force main that carries flows from the Route 4A (Enfield) system to the wastewater treatment plant. Due to the nature of the sewer main, it cannot be shut off and must be bypassed for repairs to be completed.
The depth of the main, combined with the need to bypass the system, may make this fix a multi-day event. Based on the level of flow, depth of the main, and forecasted heavy rains, work is not scheduled to begin until Saturday, July 10 at 7:00 am. To facilitate the required work, Packard Hill Covered Bridge will be closed completely. Riverside Drive between Packard Hill Covered Bridge and Right Space Storage will be closed to traffic. Baker’s Crossing Conservation Area will be closed to the public until work is complete. Bank Street Extension and Hardy Hill Road will remain open but expect delays.
As of now, there is no threat to the public water supply and water is safe for drinking. Should circumstances change and the water supply is adversely impacted, the public will be made aware through an updated newsflash posted to the City’s website, and a LebAlert will be issued.
As work progresses over the next several days, updates will be provided on lebanonnh.gov and through the City’s LebAlert system. We are asking that you stay engaged with information on our website as we will be keeping everyone informed to the greatest extent possible through regular updates. If you are not subscribed to LebAlerts, we highly recommend that you take a minute to do so.
