Lebanon Fire Department patch

Outdoor de-icing cables are used in both commercial and residential settings for freeze protection and to prevent roof damage. It can be used on a roof and gutters to avoid ice dams and snow buildup. These cable's use an inner conductor wrapped in layers of PVC insulation to produce heat  to raise the temperature of surrounding areas of the roof.

Lebanon Fire Department urges all property owners to ensure the proper installation, maintenance, and operation of these de-Icing cables. The Fire Department is seeing a spike in electrical malfunctions within these cables that could potentially ignite roofing materials! While de-icing cables are a unique tool that can assist homeowners during the cold and freezing New England winters -- accidents can happen.

Please feel free to contact LFD Fire Prevention Bureau for assistance or with any questions you may have regarding de-icing cables and/or removing snow and ice from your roofs safely.
