[ARCHIVED] Safety Tips for Summer Grilling

Grilling Statistics Safety Poster

When the warmer weather hits, there’s nothing better than the smell of food on the grill. Currently, 7 out of every 10 adults in the U.S. have a grill or smoker, which translates to a lot of tasty meals, but also means there is an increased risk of home fires.

The current annual grilling statistics reported by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) are:

  • 10,600 home fires per year involving grills, hibachis, or barbecues with July as the peak month followed by June, May, and August;
  • 19,700 patients in ER per year due to injuries involving grills, including 9,500 thermal burns;
  • 64% of U.S. households own at least one outdoor BBQ, grill, or smoker with 61% owning a gas grill. Gas grills contribute to a higher number of fires than charcoal grills.

The Lebanon Fire Department offers the following information to help educate and remind residents to practice safe grilling as the summer season heats up. Please review and be safe!

As always if anyone has any questions please do not hesitate to contact the Lebanon Fire Department at 603-448-8810. If you have a fire emergency, please call 911.
