[ARCHIVED] Council Joins Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness

The Mayors Challenge to End Veterans Homelessness began in June 2014. It is a call to action for all mayors and other state and local leaders to publicly commit to making sure that every veteran who served America has a home in America. Several communities in the State and many more across the Nation have signed onto the challenge.

On October 16, 2019, Lebanon City Council unanimously approved a motion to authorize Mayor McNamara to sign onto the Mayors Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness on behalf of the City of Lebanon. David Tille, New England Regional Administrator for the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, was present on October 16 to discuss the initiative with City Council.

The Mayors Challenge is not only symbolic in nature, but also underscores the commitment of the City of Lebanon to think outside the box and do all it can to ensure that housing is available for veterans in our community. If veterans experience homelessness, the episode will be brief and services will be provided so that homelessness is not reoccurring. The City of Lebanon Human Services office partners with several Upper Valley agencies that serve Veterans, including the Veterans Administration, Easter Seals, Veterans Inc., and Friends of Vets.

The City of Lebanon is committed to ending veteran homelessness. If you are, or know of, a veteran in Lebanon who is homeless, please reach out to Lynne Goodwin, Human Services Director, at 603-448-2944.
